SKYRIDE FAQ

  • How much does Skyride cost?

    • Skykard package is AU$3,960 ​

    • Skyride 1 litre is AU$19,800

    • Skyride 3 litre is AU$55,000

  • When should I ship the payload to Skykraft?

    • Allow 6 months before scheduled launch. Skykraft are working to reduce this lead time.

  • What power will I get once my payload is in the spacecraft?

    • It depends on the payload format. 

    • Circuit card: 5W (5V @ 1A). The power and data will be transferred via a PCIe connector.

    • 1U CubeSat format: 17W (12V and 5v, both @ 1A) via an umbilical harness.

    • 3U CubeSat format: 34W (12V and 5V @ 2A) via an umbilical harness.

  • Are there any interface requirements?

    • If the payload is in CubeSat format​

      • Have an umbilical connector matching the spacecraft umbilical connector for power and data transfer. 

    • If the payload is a circuit board, 

      • It should have the following dimensions: 100mm x 100mm x 15mm

      • A PCIe x16 size physical connector with pinouts compliant with the spacecraft interface board.

  • Where can I find a model of the Skykraft spacecraft umbilical connector?

    • This will be supplied with the kit when you enter the program.​

  • What types of communication protocol should I use?

    • The interface to the spacecraft is via a low speed UART

  • Once collected, how can I retrieve my data? 

    • Once the data downloaded, the telemetry will be stored on a secured server, where you will access your data.

  • Who owns the IP after data collection?

    • The customers have full ownership on the data collected with their system/instrument. Skykraft provides the service to ride an external payload, operate it, download and transfer the data to the appropriate customer.  For technical reasons we may inspect the raw data downloaded and are not responsible for any leaks.  If your data is sensitive please apply your own encryption.

  • Do I need to vibe my system / instrument?

    • If your system is the size of a 1U Cubesat format or more, we highly recommend you to do your own vibration test to ensure appropriate mechanical robustness of the instrument or system. Please note that the completed Skykraft spacecraft may undergo further qualification with your payload installed.  Make sure your payload is robust.

  • What kind of documents should I provide to qualify for Launch?

    • Declared Materials List: List of materials used in the payload and their compliance with the Launcher outgassing level requirements.

    • Vibration test report for larger payloads if stipulated (we will advise prior to accepting you into the program).

    • Interface Control Document is stipulated (we will advise prior to accepting you into the program).

  • What are the outgassing level requirements?

    • Collected Volatile Condensable Material (CVCM): <0.1%

    • Total Mass Loss (TML): <1%

  • If I decide to vibe, what are the vibration requirements?

    • GEVS is a useful bounding case.  Your Skyride manager can discuss in more detail if necessary.

  • Are there multiple launches per year? 

    • Yes. Skykraft plan is to launch satellites multiple times per year.  A planned launch date will be nominated when you are accepted into the Skyride program.
